The Single Origin of the Month will focus on promoting a different coffee farm/producer each month. This City Roast profile will highlight the notes and flavors of the beans that each farmer expects in every cup.
This month's offering is from India.
Hailing from the lush Western Ghats of India, this selection comes from the historic Pearl Mountain Estate—or Ratnagiri—founded in 1920. Now managed by the third generation of the Patre family, these beans are grown at high altitudes under a dense canopy of shade trees, pepper vines, and cardamom groves.
The Patres’ commitment to quality is evident in their meticulous sorting process, which ensures only perfectly ripe cherries are selected for processing. The result is a versatile, expertly cultivated coffee that balances a century of tradition with the precision required for a truly modern specialty cup.
This coffee leads with prominent notes of roasted almond butter and bittersweet chocolate, rounded out by a deep malt sugar sweetness. It boasts a thick, dense body and low acidity, offering a heavy, satisfying mouthfeel that excels as both a filter brew and a creamy espresso.
